In May of 2016, the FDA announced that manufacturers with more than $10 million in annual food sales would need to convert all Nutrition Facts Panels to a new FDA-regulated format by June of 2018. Since then, the administration stated that it will extend its original compliance deadline with further details to come at a later date through a Federal Register Notice – giving us all just a little more time to comply.
The extension comes after the FDA received feedback from industry and consumer groups regarding the original compliance deadline. The official notice stated:
“The framework for the extension will be guided by the desire to give industry more time and decrease costs, balanced with the importance of minimizing the transition period during which consumers will see both the old and the new versions of the label in the marketplace.”
